A fight for women's rights
In 1985 the MOMA (Museum of Modem Art) in New York held an exhibition of contemporany art entitled An International Survey of Painting and Sculpture. Of the 169 artists who participated in it, only 13 were women. In front of the museum, there were a group of girls who manifested for this inequality. That was the first time Guerrilla Girls appeared.
They were a group of communist women and their modus operandi was to show the women discrimination in art. They used posters to express with irony what they thought.
Their names werw unknown. They were anonymous but we know that different women different ages constituted the group.
They hide their faces with masks apes inspired by the character of King Kong, which was used as a symbol of male domincance. In his public speeches they chose, as a pseudonym, different artists names.
They created adds for buses and deployables for magazines. Their purpose was to reach everywhere and they used the techniques at their disposal to achieve it.
Now, Guerrilla Girls are not together. We do not know what has happened. But I am sure if you have a fantastic memory, you can remember what they did. Guerrilla Girls will always be in our hearts because they made history fighting for women's rights.
In my opinion this waws a spectacular idea. I think, they tried to fight against a society who always thought of men as the best. For example, if a woman did something wrong, it was a disaster but if it was a man who did it, nothing happened.
Women has the same rights as men and we have to fight to achieve what we deserve.
